My Little Heritage of the Lord and I stopped at a rest area
on the way home from Alabama. As we headed back to the car, she spotted a
gentleman, and exclaimed, “That man looks like grandfather!” I almost cried as
we passed him, and I smiled and said, “Hi!”
When we got into the car, I asked Little Heritage if she thought it
would be a good idea to give him a chocolate and a Gospel tract, telling him he
looks like my Daddy. (To be like Grandfather, we would like to tell at least
someone each day about Jesus, and I thought this would be the perfect person
for this day.)
When the man was walking to his car, even the way he walked
and paused looked just like Grandfather. We walked up to him, and I was crying
as I told him, “You look so much like my Daddy! In two days it will be a year
since he went to heaven and I miss him so much!” “ I want you to meet him.” I
said, standing at his side. I hugged him a Daddy hug with one arm, as I cried and
handed him the tract and chocolate.
The grandfatherly man said, “Maybe he sent me here.”
I was trying to say I didn’t think he could, but God sent
him, but the tears just kept coming out, and I couldn’t talk well. I thanked him and we parted.
Then I remembered I had a lovely picture of Daddy in my
phone. We quickly walked up to the car where the grandfatherly man was the
passenger and a younger person was the driver, just getting ready to pull out.
The grandfatherly man already had the tract open, reading it, and looking just
like Daddy. I told him I had a picture of my Daddy that I wanted to show
him. I couldn’t see through my tears so
my little helper found the picture for me. He could see the similarities. He
even got out of the car so I could get a picture of him before he left.
I was going to show it to everyone, but my young’un’ thought
I was replacing Grandfather, and wanted me to delete the picture. At first she
didn’t even want me to tell the story, because she was so jealous for
Grandfather. However, when I told her Grandmother wanted me to write it, she
reluctantly said, “Well, in any case, grandfather’s still One of a Kind!”
