The Lady Behind the Gentleman

Charity posed a question about whether this blog should also include our thoughts and appreciation of Mother/Grandmother.

I say, “Of course, how could it not?” Daddy would not have been who he was, and we would not be who we are without the enduring faith and love of our mother/Grandmother.

Growing up, I always felt that I knew no better example of God’s love, how he leads us, how he looks after our best interest, than I had in my mother. In many ways, she has been the family cornerstone.

Is it possible to write a blog about Daddy/Grandfather which does not also display our admiration for Mother/Grandmother? I don’t think so.

  1. My dear little Hope (who has great hope),
I love the way you describe it. That's exactly how I feel about our precious Mother too.

    Love,

    The Lady Behind the Gentleman

    MY DARLING, LITTLE MOTHER,
You are precious to me in so many ways. Your love is deep and true.
I’m so glad we had you at home, when we were growing up.
I’m so glad you and Daddy gave me so many sisters and brothers,
to rejoice with me when I rejoice, and to weep with me when I weep!

I’m always privileged to work by your side, as I did through the years,
probably more on pianos than in the kitchen.
Yet I remember helping out in the kitchen on Fridays,
helping to make potato salad with my sisters and you,
getting things ready for our Sabbath celebration.
That was comforting to work, and laugh together.

You make the home sound lovely with your piano playing.
It was such a comfort to hear your music growing up, and now!
Judy helped us to realize the preciousness of this.
After she was married, and would come to visit,
She told those of us still at home with you,
Not to just take that for granted.
She pointed out how happy it was that you would play music,
then come out of the music room, whistling as you danced
stepping on the tiled pattern over the kitchen floor.

Thank you for the older siblings you gave us,
to help us realize these precious things.
Because of this, were able to treasure these things
    throughout our years with you,
    And treasure them still.

    I love you!
    Charity
